Being quarantined in your home can make anyone stir crazy. Help pass the time by giving your skin some TLC. A free social calendar is a great excuse to wear less makeup, try out new skincare products, and even try masking! Here are some acne-friendly DIY face masks you can make with ingredients straight out of your kitchen.

Turmeric & honey

Both turmeric and honey have been used for years as natural treatments for a variety of ailments. Honey has known anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, and turmeric calms inflammation and reduces redness. Be sure, though, to use raw honey to get maximum benefits.

Directions:
  1. Mix ½ teaspoon turmeric + 1 tablespoon of honey.
  2. Apply a thin layer around your face.
  3. Leave on for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Gently wash off with warm water and pat your skin dry.
Egg white & lemon juice

Egg whites are a great source of vitamins and proteins and can help tighten the skin, shrink pores, and reduces oiliness. Lemon juice contains vitamin C, citric acid, and niacin, which all help to even out skin tone or exfoliate the surface of the skin.

Directions:
  1. Mix 1 raw egg white + ½ teaspoon lemon juice + 1/3 teaspoon turmeric.
  2. Apply a thin layer around your face.
  3. Leave on for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Gently wash off with warm water and pat your skin dry.
Avocado & Honey

Avocados are rich in amino acids, healthy fats, and antioxidants to hydrate and protect your skin. Combine it with honey and ground, raw oats to add anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.

Directions:
  1. Mix 1/2 ripe avocado + 1 tablespoon raw honey + 1 teaspoon ground raw oats.
  2. Apply a thin layer around your face.
  3. Leave on for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Gently wash off with warm water and pat your skin dry.
Yogurt mask

Give your skin a probiotic boost using plain yogurt. Yogurt contains lactic acid and other postbiotics (metabolic waste from the probiotics in yogurt) that help to exfoliate and hydrate the skin. Combine it with honey and turmeric to give yourself a soothing and hydrating mask.

Directions:
  1. Mix 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt + 1 teaspoon raw honey + 1/2 teaspoon turmeric.
  2. Apply a thin layer around your face.
  3. Leave on for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Gently wash off with warm water and pat your skin dry.

None of these masks should be used solely as an acne treatment, but they are fun additions to your weekly skincare routine. Try them out and let us know what you think!
