Fear of Breaking Out
Oh no, not another pimple!
Why don't regular treatments work?
Did you know the last new treatment for acne was developed more than 60 years ago? NASA didn’t exist. Doctors thought smoking was healthy. The average house cost $13,000. Is this the era of medicine we should be trusting our skin to?
Go down the list—benzoyl peroxide, retinoids, antibiotics—they’re all short-term fixes with big-time side effects. They each address just one of the many causes of acne, so if they work at all it’s only for a short time. Then you’re stuck with the aftermath.
Accutane (isotretinoin) is another bad option. It has been associated with birth defects, depression, gastrointestinal disorders, nose bleeds, joint pain, and poor bone development. Yikes. It’s a last resort for a reason.
How is Dermala Different?
Well, our solutions are newer than 60 years old. It’s amazing what you can accomplish with a modern understanding of the human microbiome, the gut-skin axis, DNA sequencing, and some data science.
Our acne-fighting regimen was developed by scientists at leading U.S. universities and perfected by experts in acne treatment. It fights all the causes of acne, not just one of them. It has been clinically tested and includes ingredients approved by the FDA for the treatment of acne.
Acne is Bacteria
Yep. Cutibacterium acnes. About 700 million people, most between 12 and 28, are affected. During puberty, our hormones kick off a cascade of changes, one of which is sebum production. Sebum is a kind of oil the skin produces, and when it mixes with dead skin cells it’s a perfect pore clogger.
Those clogged pores are like a dinner buffet for C. acnes. They multiply, inflame the skin, and produce acne lesions (better known to you as pimples).
Yet another reason to hate puberty.
Why the Microbiome Stuff Then?
Good question. Our microbiome is just the collection of bacteria in and on our bodies. Most of it’s good for us, helping to protect against germs, break down food for energy, produce vitamins, and develop our immune system. Sometimes our microbiome gets imbalanced, though. That’s called dysbiosis. It can happen both on the skin and in the gut.
Whether the ecosystem is a forest or your body, when one species grows too fast, it hurts the others. In the case of acne, dysbiosis in the skin causes C. acnes to get stronger and eventually outgrow the good guys. The imbalance in the gut increases inflammation throughout the body, which just makes the inflammation happening on the skin worse. Hellooo acne.
What is the #FOBO Kit?
It’s a skincare personal assistant who knows you inside and out, and has everything you need:
Also, the #FOBO Kit is personalized to you. Throughout your skincare journey, you’ll track your progress with the Dermala Acne Tracker app (it’s free, app store, iOS/Android - you know the drill). #FOBO Product Highlight
SCANTILY Pad™ - AM/PM Acne Treatment
Personalized. Topical. Leave-on. Kind of a boring set
of adjectives, but we’re more about exciting you with the results.
Each pad is infused with a unique combination of our patented SE
Microbiome Complex®, salicylic acid, and Aloe vera. The SE
Microbiome Complex® is a unique blend of Staphylococcus
epidermidis pre- and postbiotics. That’s what kills the acne-causing
bacteria and nourishes acne-fighting bacteria on your skin. The
salicylic acid dissolves dead skin cells, which opens clogged pores
and prevents new clogs from forming. Aloe vera soothes the skin
and reduces inflammation. And the ratio between these ingredients
is adjusted, month-to-month, based on your results.
Fewer, smaller, and less-severe pimples. No lame side-effects like inflammation, redness, peeling, or itching. Like we said, we’re about the results.
with Benefits™ - AM/PM Cleanser
Cleansers are a paradox: they have to clean away dirt and oil, but
can’t over-dry the skin. Getting ours right took a pending U.S. patent
on our SE Microbiome Complex® that targets acne-causing bacteria
and helps the acne-fighting strains to flourish. It also took natural
plant oils, amino acids, vitamins, and a slightly acidic pH balance,
because that’s what helps fight acne. (Typical cleansers have alkaline
pH, which is actually associated with acne).
Break it all down and you’ve got a powerful cleanser, healthier skin, and less acne. Paradox solved.
to Be® - Daily Pre + Probiotic Mix
You can’t just swallow a bunch of good bacteria and get a magically healthier microbiome. If a supplement doesn’t correctly balance a lot of different elements, you’re just *ahem* flushing it down the drain. Ours is an exclusive blend of:
6.25 billion CFU of probiotics - species that have been specifically associated with reduction of inflammatory acne and improved skin health
Zinc - a natural antibiotic that has reduced acne severity in clinical trials
Vitamins – best vitamins to restore skin health after acne breakouts
Spinach extract - a super blend of antioxidants, vitamins, enzymes, and minerals that nurture the good bacteria
All those nutrients set up the probiotics to do their thing: optimize gut health and support your immune system. More Info
